We saw what happened this summer in free agency in the NHL, but i'm going to talk about the Trades that happened in summer 2014 and say my opinion of the winner of the trade.
Scott Hartnell for R.J. Umberger and a 4th round pick

So for this trade Columbus won that trade because they got rid of Umberger that is getting older and they got a better player in return. Hartnell is getting older, but still plays his best hockey. They gave away Umberger which didn't much for the team, and Scott Hartnell helped the team alot even if they didn't make the playoffs.
Ryan Kesler and a 3rd round pick for Nick Bonino, Luca Sbisa, 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick

At first I was like oh okay they both win this trade but Anaheim won that trade. They got Ryan Kesler which he is an amazing player and they gave away Nick Bonino who had an okay season, Luca Sbisa had an amazing season but Anaheim wins for sure and they got him for 6 more years.
Jason Garrison and 7th round pick for a 2nd round pick

Tampa Bay won that trade, they gave away a 2nd round pick but they got a defensemen to be part of one of the best Defense in the league. He had a good season and helped the team in D this season and it helped them alot.
James Neal for Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling

For me The Pittsburg Penguins won this trade because they got a goal scoring machine to help them and they got a great dept foward that got traded to Toronto. James Neal is great player but I think because he wasn't playing with Sidney Croby or Evgeni Malkin got him to have an okay season but he still is a great player.
Sam Gagner and B.J. Crombeen for a 6th round pick

For me no one won that trade. Sam Gagner was great for Arizona but he got traded to Philadelphia. B.J. Crombeen not a big impact on the team and Tampa Bay got a 6th round pick which is worth not alot. No one won that trade.
Daniel Brière for PA Parenteau and a 5th round pick

At first I was like Montreal won that trade but now, no one won that trade. Colorado got the little old guy Daniel Brière not playing alot and Montreal got Parenteau who helped them alot in shootout and thats it. They bought out is contract and now he is playing for Toronto.
Jason Spezza and Ludwig Karlsson for Alex Chiasson, Nick Paul, Alex Guptill and a 2nd round pick

For me Dallas won that trade. They got Jason Spezza an amazing player and Ottawa got Alex Chiasson who was terrible this year. Even if Dallas didn't make the playoffs, This trade was a steal.
Josh Gorges for a 2nd round pick

Montreal lost a great leader but no one won that trade. Josh Gorges wasn't really there litteraly. He was injured like alot and didn't play vs Montreal. Montreal got a 2nd round pick but they traded it to Edmonton to have Jeff Petry. So I don't really know if Montreal wins this trade or no one wins. But Buffalo lost that trade for sure.
Johnny Boychuk for 3 round picks

The New York Islanders won that trade because they got a great defensemen to help out there team and he is now considerd a great player because he has more ice time with them. New York won that trade enough said.
Nick Leddy and Kent Simpsons for T.J. Brennan, Ville Pokka and the rights to Anders Nilsson

The New York Islanders won that trade for sure. They got another great defensemen to help there team and they gave way some depth players. Anders Nilsson is the goalie on the pciture. He played in the KHL and has signed a contract with The Edmonton Oilers. That trade was a steal by the Islanders.
Thanks for reading and have a great day :)
